Last Minute C.S.Lewis Opportunity
Greetings friends,
Thanks to one of our newest YAMs, Jennifer, I am able to share with you an opportunity to see some of C. S. Lewis's finest work . . . presented in person. The Screwtape Letters is a book that wistfully details the correspondence between two demons - Screwtape and Wormwood. The younger and less experienced Wormwood receives encouragement in his duty to tempt humanity from the older and superior Screwtape. Needless to say this is an ironically clever work of fiction.
The Tivoli theater is presenting a one man show of the book tonight and tomorrow night. More information can be found about the performance here and more information can be found about the Tivoli's schedule here.
I don't know that I will be able to make it, but I would welcome a report from someone who does.
Yours in Christ,
Bob

Friends,
Following up with our joint venture with St. Peter's College & Careers group, I am letting everyone know about the upcoming opportunity in their speaker series. On Monday, October 12, the C&C group will meet at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 6:00 PM.
The program begins with a service of Evening Prayer, followed by dinner and a speaker. The speaker on the 12th will be the Rev. Lou(isa) Parsons, Rector of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Ooltewah. She will give a presentation on the Millenium Development Goals.
If you are interested in attending, please email Robert Hartmans (whom many of you have met, if you attended the aforementioned dinner or any of our service events) to let him know that you are coming, so that they will know how many to expect.
Perhaps I will see many of you there.
Yours in Christ,
Bob

St. Paul's Clergy at the Opening of The St. Paul's Chapel at Grace Point
Friends,
Recently, the St. Paul's Chapel was opened and consecrated at the Diocesan Camp and Conference Center, Grace Point. On the way in, your clergy was having a great time and it shows in this candid photo, snapped by Don Myers.

I hope that you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed ourselves that day!
Yours in Christ,
Bob

Episcopal Metropolitan Ministries Benefit Jam
Greetings friends,
The following was forwarded to me by ECSET Missioner, The Rev. John Talbird:
"MUSIC BENEFIT FOR METROPOLITAIN MINISTRIES
On Thursday, June 4, at Rhythm & Brews, two well-regarded bands will perform a benefit for the Chattanooga Metropolitan Ministries. The Ministries is an Episcopal organization, supported by the Church, with a primary mission of helping those who are in danger of becoming homeless and those who have already suffered that difficult fate.
The show will be led off by Josh Edwards and the Sloan River Project. Although Josh lived in Chattanooga for many years, he is now based in Northern Virginia, where he joined Sam Hensley to form the Project and from where the band launches tours all over the Southeast. Like Josh and Sam, the Project’s music is mostly acoustic folk/rock, in the singer/songwriter tradition of tunes with strong personal stories and messages. For this show, the Project will be joined on bass guitar by Father Bob Leopold, of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church downtown, and by Steven Hopkins on guitar.
The second half of the show will be Kathy Tugman and DaHouse Band, joined by special guests, Fletcher Bright and David Walters. This set will combine rock and roll, country, Southern soul and classic jazz tunes. Kathy, known primarily these days for her jazz work with the David Walters Trio, rejoins her friends in DaHouse Band for an energetic and eclectic program that is sure to have the place jumping.
The cost is $10 per person, payable at the door. Thanks to Mike Dougher and Rhythm & Brews, all of the money collected will go to the Ministries. The show begins at 7. Doors open at 6. The venue, located at 221 Market Street downtown, will be non-smoking."
I will be there, actually as the bass player for both bands. I am able to fill in for each respective band's bassist - it should be fun and it goes to a great cause.
I hope that some of you can come out!
Thanks,
Bob
P.S. Please see the flyer here.

Andy Gill Invites Us to Watch Wimbeldon at His Home
Greetings friends,
YAM Andy Gill has graciously invited us ovver to his home on Sunday, July 5th, to watch the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Thanks to the magic of technology, Andy will record the final match while we are at St. Paul's that morning. Afterward, we will proceed to greenlife Grocery as usual. After Greenlife breaks up, we will head to Andy's home to watch the finals on his big TV. It should be a lot of fun. As the matches get closer, we should know who is playing who. I will get with Andy to send out an evite to the wider YAMs community when we are closer to the event. This evite will include directions and stuff like that. I sure hope that everyone can make it to Andy's event. Thanks to Andy for offering to host this event.
Thanks,
Bob

St. Elmo Reading Center at Thankful Memorial Church
Greetings friends,
In the St. Elmo neighborhood, there is a little Episcopal Church called Thankful Memorial. What they lack in members, they more than make up for in community presence. The host a reading center for children in the St. Elmo neighborhood. On Tuesdays and Thursdays volunteers are needed to read for the children and youth that participate in the Summer Reading Program. If you are interested, please contact Linda Cooper at Lindacoop AT comcast DOT net.
I hope that some of you will consider this if you are here this summer and find yourself without much to do.

National Food Drive
Greetings friends,
This Saturday, May 9th, is the National Food Drive day. Basically, this Saturday you may leave a bag of non-perishable food items by your mail box and the post office will "deliver" them to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank to "stamp out hunger." Kat let me know about this great opportunity, which is definately, as she said, "not getting any press." So, here I am trying to fight that in my own small way. She called our post office in order to make sure that Chattanooga is a participating city and we are! Yay! Please consider leaving some food for the needy this Saturday. More information can be found here.

Announcements Over the Summer
Greetings friends,
I have devised a new system for our (would-be) summer-time gatherings. As you may know, We are scaling down our YAMs events to once per month for June and July. This does not mean that we have to see each other less, as I have a plan. If you forward me something that you are involved in (see Amanda's Dancing or Food & Faith events as fine examples), I will post it on the website. I won't send out an email blast, as I do not want to fill eveyone's inbox with messages. This will make it imperative to check the website in order to find out what might be going on.
Yours in Christ,
Bob
